General Questions About The Hathaway Scholarship
You’ll apply for the Hathaway Scholarship through the eligible Wyoming college of your choice. Contact the Wyoming college you plan to attend for more details!
You have four years from the high school graduation date listed on your official transcripts to apply for your Hathaway Scholarship. Some exceptions apply, such as military or religious service. Contact the Wyoming college you plan to attend for more details.
After initiating your Hathaway Scholarship, you have six years to use 96 credits (12 credits per semester).
The Hathaway Scholarship is exclusive to the state of Wyoming and can be used at a Wyoming community college or the University of Wyoming.
In addition to specific requirements for high school students, homeschool students, and High School Equivalency Certificate (HSEC) recipients, scholarship recipients must demonstrate Wyoming residency, which is determined by the post-secondary institution.

Yes, as long as you apply for the Hathaway Scholarship through your chosen Wyoming college within 48 months of your graduation date, and if you’re still considered a resident of Wyoming at that time.
Typically, no; only scholarship dollars that exceed the cost of attendanceCost of Attendance (COA)Also known as the cost of education or “budget.” The total amount it should cost the student to go to school, including tuition and fees, room and board, allowances for books and supplies, transportation, and personal and incidental expenses. Loan fees, if applicable, may also be included in the COA. Child care and expenses for disabilities may also be included at the discretion of the financial aid administrator. Schools establish different standard budget amounts for students living on-campus and off-campus, married and unmarried students and in-state and out-of-state students. Yes. For an Opportunity or Provisional Hathaway Scholarship, World Language courses must be sequenced. However, for an Honors or Performance Hathaway Scholarship, additional World Language courses do not need to be sequenced.
Yes, but the course(s) must be on your final, official high school transcript to be considered part of the Hathaway Success Curriculum. For example, if you graduate May 31, but intend to take a summer recovery course, the graduation date cannot be May 31; rather, it should be after the course has ended.
Yes, as long as the graduation date on your official transcripts is after the date you have taken all required Hathaway Success Curriculum courses.
Yes. In most school districts, one semester of a college course (1000 level or higher) is equal to one full year of high school content. For example, one semester of French 1010 is considered one full year of content at the high school level for Hathaway Success Curriculum purposes.
Questions About ACT Requirements
Yes. To be eligible for any level of the scholarship, public high school students, homeschool students, and HSEC students are all required to take the ACTAmerican College Test (ACT)One of the two national standardized college entrance examinations used in the US. The other is the SAT. The ACT is widely used in the West and Midwest. Most universities require either the ACT or the SAT as part of an application for admission. Yes. After your Hathaway Scholarship has been awarded by your Wyoming college of choice, you have until the start of courses to submit your ACT scores to the institution.
Yes, an ACT Superscore—the process of averaging your four best subject scores from all of your ACT test attempts—can be used to meet the minimum cut score for the scholarship’s ACT requirements.
Questions About Using The Hathaway Scholarship At College
No; the GPA requirements for the Hathaway Scholarship are based only on your academic performance in high school. To maintain your scholarship, you’ll need to meet specific GPA requirements each semester; visit our College Requirements page for details.

Yes, as long as you maintain the minimum GPA of 2.25 for the Opportunity scholarship. Once you regain a 2.5 GPA, you’ll be eligible to receive your Honors scholarship again. Visit our College Requirements page for more details.
Yes! Summer semesters count toward your total scholarship eligibility for an equivalent of eight full-time semesters. However, summer doesn’t count as part of the academic year, so you must also attend the fall and spring semesters of the academic year.
